I finally got the chance to listen to this week’s episode and I loved it! I’m intrigued by the bacon wrapped turkey, but I’m actually more interested in the spaghetti with bacon! That sounds amazing.
You guys had some really well-rounded, entertaining discussions in this episode. I agree with Mario that I liked the ElecTRONica event more than the Mad T Party. That may be because I dig Tron so much more than the Alice-pop-culture-thing where it’s hip to be avant-garde and non-sensical. I understand the thinking behind wanting to rotate in a fresh presentation though. But if it’s more Frozen, I’m with Javier…DONE.
I really loved all the things you guys discussed about Big Hero 6 too. I loved the movie. I wasn’t familiar with the comic, so I had no expectations for the characters or the story and was pleasantly surprised that it was a gripping tale with real human drama (like all of the best animated works) and tons of movie magic. I will admit that ever since Frozen was released a year ago I’ve been afraid that Disney would continue to take shortcuts (as they clearly did with the sub-par animation in Frozen) because they got away with it and all anybody seemed to care about was the music. My faith was fully restored when the fully textured environments, heavily detailed “sets” and dynamically animated characters filled every inch of the giant screen before me. I totally agree with what Heyzen had to say about the animators being from the comic book generation and being given more freedom to explore their craft. This seems apparent in Big Hero 6. The partnership between Disney and Marvel has been absolutely incredible to witness. Avengers, Guardians, Big Hero 6…I can’t wait to see what else they will do. I do agree with Javier that the title isn’t that great. I didn’t get it until the end of the movie. And if you haven’t seen it yet, Javier, STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING AND GO NOW!
You guys are awesome. I look forward to every Wednesday!

The spaghetti with bacon actually turned out better than expected; we were quite pleased (except Mario). Lol! I don’t think you’re alone on the Frozen thing. Since you said that you get the rotation thing they’re possibly going for, would you bring back ElecTRONica or go with something different?

The environments in BH6 (yup, that’s what the cool kids are calling it… ok, it’s just me) were amazing! It makes me miss doing 3D stuff! I feel that the mash-ups of “generations” isn’t just apparent in this movie but I think I mentioned it’s a bit of a “cultural shift”. Have you read or seen anything about Seekers of the Weird or the Figment comic book? Again, here are two great examples of how the Disney and Marvel cultures are clashing and producing great products! If you haven’t, I recommend checking them out. Other than “Baymax”, as Javier suggested, what would you have called the movie?

Hi Gavin it’s Javier. Thanks for agreeing with me in almost everything lol makes you very smart. The spaghetti was delish! I had so much that night. I was suppose to have seen big hero 6 this weekend but was so busy. But I promise to see it soon.

I will definitely have to check out Seekers of the Weird and the Figment comics (I’ve checked out the covers). As for the movie title, I think simply adding the word “The” to the beginning would have made a big difference to me. I never realized it was referring to 6 members of a team. I thought it was supposed to be version 6 of a hero that was big. Anyway, I may have otherwise gone with a more poetic title like “A Boy and His Robot”.
Javier! You Crack me up in every podcast, brother. Can’t wait to hear what you think of BH6!

Oh no! I swear I replied to both of you, but I guess it didn’t take.

Anyway, I think the title of Big Hero 6 might have made more sense to me if they simply added “The” to the front. In my mind that would have told me it was referring to a group of 6 heroes. I thought the title meant Baymax was a big hero and he was version 6. Anyway, as far as alternate titles, I would have tended toward something more poetic such as “A Boy and His Robot”.

Javier, did you see it yet?
