Ep27: Christmas Favorites

Dec 24, 2014 | Podcast episode

In this episode: This is our very first Christmas/Holiday episode so we decided to talk a little about our favorite songs and movies that have become tradition during the Christmas season.

°o° --------------------- °o°

This episode was fun yet difficult because filtering down music to a “top” list is difficult. During the episode, Mario mentions that he hopes that one of his picks doesn’t have any covers, unfortunately for him ‘The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)’ has had several covers from artists like Kenny G, Tegan and Sara, the cast of Glee and even Chip ‘n’ Dale sing their own rendition on the album Disney’s Merry Christmas Carols. Sorry, Mario.

Here’s a Spotify playlist with (almost) all the songs that we talk about in this episode:

If you like any of these songs, please help support the artists by purchasing their music or signing up for a service that will help support them like Google Play Music or Spotify.

Movies mentioned:

  • Home Alone
  • The Polar Express
  • Prep and Landing
  • A Christmas Story
  • The Nightmare Before Christmas
  • Edward Scissorhands
  • Elf
  • It’s A Wonderful Life
  • The Muppet Christmas Carol
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas
  • The Santa Clause

How many of these movies have you watched?  Are any of your favorites or traditional movies on this list? If not, jot yours down in the comments below!

So what do you think regarding the Mariah Carey performance? Is she sick or just not a great singer anymore? Watch this video and leave your thoughts below:

This was a fun listen and I was surprised by some of your picks. Although I LOVE how you all rallied for The Drifters’ White Christmas! It is truly one of the best Christmas songs ever. I also agree with you Heyzen that “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” is fantastic and puts me in Christmas montage mode.

Personal faves that you didn’t mention are:
-Los Straightjackets xmas album. I can listen to that for days before I get tired of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ_L2FJTUWg&list=PLUDD3NLQNmzYPuQm86J-0WgSdiByzgSWF
    – BNL’s “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings” with Sarah McLachlan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGVNzgUxE-g
    – Mi Burrito Sabanero – Harkens to my childhood and always puts a smile on my face. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Wrc6Q7acME
    – Finally, Sleigh Ride (instrumental) is magnificent and I like the traditional versions but I LOVE the Squirrel Nut Zippers version even more. It lets me imagine I’m sitting at Disneyland during Christmas time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5M_faPsYvw

I can keep going like you did, but I’ll force myself to stop here.

BTW, this whole time, I thought I WAS a Podketeer, I didn’t know that that was just you guys.

      Haha! Christmas montages rule! 😀

Such a great list! Oh, man! I haven’t heard Sleigh Ride in so long!! I know Christmas is over but I had to go listen to it! 😀

Regarding the whole Podketeers things… you know what? I think you’re right. I think we’re all just Podketeers. 🙂
