This past week, Cal Poly Pomona researchers claimed that FitBit’s PurePulse technology is “highly inaccurate”. Fitbit posted the following response:
“What the plaintiffs’ attorneys call a ‘study’ is biased, baseless and nothing more than an attempt to extract a payout from Fitbit. It lacks scientific rigor and is the product of flawed methodology,” the company said in the statement. “Fitbit’s research team rigorously researched and developed PurePulse technology for three years prior to introducing it to market and continues to conduct extensive internal studies to test the features of our products.”
The study claims that the heart rate monitor can be off by as much as 20 beats per minute. Heyzen and Mario both use FitBit devices and feel that they’re not as off as the study states after Heyzen took his own pulse and compared it to the readings on the FitBit during walking.
Do you have a FitBit? What’s been your experience with it? Let us know down below.
