Earlier today, Disneyland officials confirmed that Jan 10th, 2016 is the last day for Big Thunder Ranch (yup, no more BBQ) and will be closing permanently to make room for Star Wars Land. In addition to the permanent closure of the ranch, several other attractions along the Rivers of America will also be closing for 1 year. The attractions include:
- the Mark Twain Riverboat
- the Sailing Ship Columbia
- Fantasmic!
- the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes
- Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
- and the Disneyland Railroad
It was reported that most of the River will be drained and stored during that year and will be refilled (using the same stored water) when it is time to reopen. The horses that are housed in the backstage area known as “Circle D” that will become part of Star Wars land are said to be getting a home offsite and will be brought in on a daily basis. Also, Cast members that work in those areas will be reassigned to other parts of the park during the construction.
